In a message that I preached at the end of August a question became my title; "Is the church still relevant today?" We went to Matthew 5:13-16 to find the answer, and discovered three things that Jesus said his church must be:
1. THE SALT OF THE EARTH Salt: exercising good judgment Without the church standing against the cesspool of degradation that is rampant in our world, everything that our country was founded upon would wash right down the drain. 2. THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD If the church fails to illuminate the darkness of sin, then hell wins and countless souls will fall headlong into eternal damnation. 3. A CITY THAT IS SET ON A HILL We must stand out in our world! Our lives, our actions, and our words must point someone to Jesus Christ. So, is the church still relevant today? That is not the question. The real question is ... Does this church have what it takes to match the need of this world? Our world needs the church to lead them to the only true hope of Jesus Christ! Be relevant today! Richard Hoffman Pastor, First Pentecostal Church
